House of memories

Today’s happy thing, though it means a lot to me, is going to be a brief one, because there is so much to say that it is better to keep it short and sweet. With this semester of college being the first time I’ve ever been away from my family long-term, I have come to appreciate all the time I get to spend with my mom, dad, sister, and of course, dog. Whether it is playing video games with my dad, doing my sister’s makeup for a sweet sixteen, shopping with my mom, or chasing my dog around downstairs, I have come to appreciate the little things that I get to do with them. I’m excited to go home over winter break so I can have more than just one week to spend with everyone. I know there are fun times to come and more memories to make in the near future. Only 13 more days!

My World

I’m starting off day one of my happiness journey with something that I have mentioned several times before on my blog and that I feel very strongly for: color guard.

Color guard has been my world since the end of my freshman year of high school. I fell in love with the amazing sport as soon as I joined. I loved being able to push myself to do such amazing and beautiful things that I never thought I could ever do. Color guard has taught me determination, persistence, discipline, and precision that has translated to my everyday life. I love the atmosphere of getting to work with my friends to put together amazing shows that move audiences.

Though I encountered a lot of adversity last year when I tore my ACL and meniscus and had to get surgery three weeks before our winter season ended. I am so happy that I have had the experiences I have had with my team, my family. I wouldn’t trade the time I spent with them for anything and I desperately wish to get back out there. I hope to sometime soon participate in a summer marching band and/or an independent winterguard to get back to spinning and doing what I love. I can’t wait to see my teammates, my friends, and my staff over winter break and hopefully attend some practices.

Getting to spin and perform for giant audiences has been one of the most memorable and happiest things I have ever participated in.

Silver Lining

A week is gone and I have now returned from my thanksgiving break. Understandably for the past week I have not had the chance to post anything on my blog since I was busy spending time with family and friends. However, I had an amazing time getting to meet up with friends I haven’t seen in the past three months, hanging out with family on thanksgiving day, and getting to step away from the hustle and bustle of college living.

…but a week is only so long and now it is time to get back to work for these last three weeks of school before I am off for winter break! While I am happy that I only have to get through two weeks more of classes and one week of finals, the days leading up to the end are going to be some of the busiest I’ve ever had with essays, podcasts, projects, garments, and plastic objects all due in less than two weeks. So in order to keep my sanity (which I can already feel slipping) I am going to go out of my way to post every day of December until the end of the semester about one thing that makes me happy. With thanksgiving having just passed and Christmas just around the corner, I think that this is the perfect time to remember the things that make us happy:) Wish me luck in tackling these last few weeks of my first semester of college!

A Much Needed Break

I’m so glad the week has come and I have the opportunity to hang out with my family and relax! I know that as soon as I get back to school I will be super busy with final projects, papers, and exams, but for the time being it is nice to not have to worry about any of that for a week. These past two days I have been able to hang out exclusively with my family, and I am excited to be able to get together with my friends in the next coming days before thanksgiving.

Also, I am very excited to be able to spend time with my dog, Rocky! Here are some pictures:)

Here’s to the week to come!

Thanksgiving Plans

ONE WEEK. One week left until I go home for thanksgiving! I can’t wait to see my family and friends and have a chance to relax without having to worry about school. So, because I am so excited I figured I would make a list of all the things I am looking forward to doing over my week long break.

  1. See my dog! (If you could’t already tell from my blog post about my dog, Rocky, I miss him very much)
  2. Go out to lunch with my mom and get to talk to her face to face as opposed to on the phone
  3. Play video games with my dad, something that we did a lot over the summer, trying to see who could finish a game faster
  4. Hang out with my sister since I feel like I didn’t have much time to hang out with her for the two days I saw her over parent’s weekend
  5. Meet up with my group of friends, called the Breakfast Bunch, and have a fun time going out to eat, and in addition to this my friend group, called C4
  6. See one of my best friends who goes to Temple University
  7. See all my friends for that matter
  8. See the marching band’s show on thanksgiving and see guard friends and staff members that I have missed dearly
  9. Get ready to host thanksgiving at our house, even though my mom is going to be super stressed out about it
  10. Get a haircut (I really need one:))
  11. Sleeping in my own bed in my own room with no roommates!
  12. TAKING A SHOWER IN A NON-COMMUNAL BATHROOM
  13. Blasting music/listening to music without earbuds/getting to sing out loud
  14. Setting up for Christmas the day after thanksgiving
  15. Not having to worry about homework/school work for a short amount of time
  16. Getting to drive again/getting to go to different places
  17. Seeing my extended family over thanksgiving and getting to tell them about how I am liking college so far (also show them pictures of the dresses I have made along with the skirt and jeans-which I am currently working on- I made for class)

Needless to say I am looking forward to a lot of things over thanksgiving break, and I am glad I only have to wait one more week before I can do them all! 🙂

Parents Weekend Fun

This weekend went so fast.

This past weekend was parent’s weekend up at Syracuse, and so for the first time since August I was able to see all of them (all the people at least) in the same place at the same time! They came up late Friday night and so I got to say hi to everyone before they had to go check in.

Saturday was where all the fun happened. FINALLY, I got to show off the brutally hard work I have been slaving away on for the last month and a half: my three dresses for the fashion show! I had my sister and two of my friends model for me and got to style them, do their hair and makeup and take lots of pictures. After the show we had a late lunch at Varsity’s and then we hung out on campus until we went out to dinner that night.

Sunday was more laid back and I took them to an awesome breakfast spot, Funk’n’Waffles, on campus and we went to the mall in the afternoon. As we said good by I could tell that they were sad to have to let me go all over again, but it’s really not for that long. As of today there are 18 days until my dad drives up on a Friday night to bring me home for Thanksgiving! And then I get to help my mom set up our house and decorate since we are hosting her side of the family this year. I have a feeling that these next two and a half weeks will go by fast. 🙂

Little Puppy

With parents weekend coming up I wanted to talk about something for a little bit. I am super excited to see my parents and my sister (especially since they are going to come to the fashion show that I have talked about in previous posts), but it makes me sad that I won’t be able to see the fourth member of my family: my dog, Rocky. Since I get to talk on the phone and text with my parents and sister it’s not that huge of a separation since we are still talking and keeping in touch. I can’t do that with my dog.

Rocky is a toy poodle, and even though he is ten years old I still call him a little puppy. Whenever I would go to sleep I would go to brush my teeth and as soon as he heard the water turn on he would wait at the door of the bathroom for me to be done and then follow me into my room. This is only one of several adorable things he does like chasing after squirrels in the backyard, sticking his nose up peoples pant legs to beg for food, and burying himself in the blinds to get our attention while we are eating.

I can’t wait to see my little puppy over thanksgiving. Only one more month, Rocky!:)

Busy Bee

I have been so extremely busy lately! Even though this week is coming to an end, I want to reflect on last weekend.

Last weekend, I was graced with a visit from my mom and two grandmas. On Saturday when they came up we went out to dinner and I was able to stay over in the hotel with then (which was nice since I didn’t have to worry about communal bathrooms for once). Then on Sunday I took them touring around campus and we went to the mall Destiny USA to go shopping. I spent all of Sunday with them until 2 am when my mom dropped be off back at my dorm.

I’ve definitely missed having my family around to spend time with, but it was a really nice experience to show them all around and show them what I have been doing so far at Syracuse. I can’t wait until my mom, dad and sister come up for parent’s weekend so I can spend more time with them and show them the three dresses I have made for the fashion show!

14 more days!

Memories to come

Over the weekend I had my first visit from my dad! On Saturday he took me out to lunch and I got to meet several of his friends from college when all of us met up to go to the homecoming game.

In the evening, we all went out to dinner as the five of them reminisced over the good old days and I heard some stories that I probably shouldn’t have. Sunday we went to varsity for pizza and my dad took we to a park where I could spin for a little (since I haven’t been able to toss on my rifle and sabre since I’ve been here). I have definitely missed being able to spin and dance out on that field with all my friends.

Overall the weekend was pretty amazing. Hearing about all the fun that my dad and his friends had when they went to school here made me excited for the memories I could make with the friends I’ve already made here. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be coming back here with my friends for homecoming weekend and we’ll get together to go down memory lane. Here’s to the next four years of memories to come.
